I have been on blood pressure medications since my twenties. Shortly before I turned 60 I followed a ketogenic meal plan based on a food list Thea has suggested to me. Although she has warned me not to quit my medication without consulting my family physician, I stopped taking all my medication within one month. My blood pressure was normal for the first time in almost 40 years.
I have practiced as a family physician for over 30 years when Thea informed me about the benefits of fasting on metabolic health. Our training taught us that drugs were the only option to treat the modern metabolic illnesses which are becoming very common. Initially I was skeptical because we were trained to believe that fasting would slow down metabolism and therefore is contra-indicated for these conditions. After reading the books of Dr. Jason Fung from Toronto, I was convinced that fasting was the best way to treat patients with insulin resistant diabetes. Since I have started to teach patients to fast while following a ketogenic diet, I could reduce their prescription medication and eventually, in some cases, wean them off all their drugs, even insulin.
The Fast2Feast workshops have been my ultimate reset button and support in helping me lose my pregnancy weight. The daily videos aid in understanding why and how fasting works. The Whatsapp support group and meal-plan was everything I needed to stay on track and easily make it through the week.
